One of the best ways to prevent hard water stains from occurring is to increase the frequency of your window cleaning. To maintain clear windows, Kevco recommends completing the exterior 3X-4X Annually. On a new building, this can be highly effective. However, if you have an old building where the glass has not been properly maintained, this may not work. Another method we have had success with is the application of a glass surface protectant such as 3 Star Barrier. Depending on the conditions this solution can last up to six months.
If you have an older building where staining is persistent throughout, don’t worry. You are not out of luck!
There are many means and methods to remove hard water stains from your building’s windows. One method is to use a scrub pad to create an abrasion on the glass. For more difficult hard water stains, we use an environmentally friendly non-acid compound on the glass. Typically, these are applied with a scrub pad or for very difficult areas a polisher could be used.
